GENERAL COMPETITION RULES
• ACCESS Doors will open approximately 45 minutes before the competition’s scheduled start time.
• ADJUDICATOR(s)
are industry professionals and are carefully chosen to judge at each competition. The adjudicators decision is final. No protests will be accepted under any circumstances.
• AGE-APPROPRIATE PERFORMANCE / COSTUMING
We clearly understand the wide range of styles and appropriateness that dancers are exposed to in different settings including social media and TV.
We have the expectation that every performance to be in good taste for viewing by a “family-friendly” audience. Inappropriate routines are not acceptable and, at minimum, will have points deducted, be ineligible for prizes or at most be disqualified.
• AGE ENTRY
Age is taken from 1st January 2025
• AGE GROUPS
Competitors are only permitted to dance in their respective age groups. Competing in an upper age group is not permitted.
The entry platform prevents competitors from entering up or down an age group.
• AWARDS / PLACINGS
SECTIONS – Top awards of 1st 2nd & 3rd will receive custom medallions.
Every competitor will be recognised for their efforts and take home an award of some description to encourage them to keep working on their performances and skills. This could be: Highly Commended – 4th Place, Commended or Encouragement awards. Other awards will be given such as Performer of The Day, Costume of The Day. Highest Point Score in Age Group
CHAMPIONSHIPS – Cash Prizes and award are given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd and awards only given to placings thereafter.
CLASSICAL REPERTOIRE – Cash prizes and Sashes are given to 1st, 2nd and 3rd and awards only given to placings thereafter.
• BEHAVIOUR / RESPECT / GOOD SPORTSMANSHIP
It is expected at Burn the Floor National Dance Challenge that all teachers and parents lead by example. Bad sportsmanship and unsavoury behaviour displayed by anyone, child or adult, within the boundaries of the venue WILL NOT be tolerated.
• CATEGORIES
OPEN
All competitors may enter open sections provided they are not entered in specially restricted or restricted in that genre or if there is no SR or R section for that genre.
RESTRICTED
for those who have placed 1st 2nd or 3rd in a specially restricted section in that chosen genre.
SPECIALLY RESTRICTED
for those who have never placed 1st 2nd or 3rd in any section at any competition. Perfect for competitors new to the competition circuit.
• CLOSING OF ENTRIES (PRIOR TO CUT OFF DATE)
When age groups reach capacity, we will close entries early. This is to prevent overloading of the program and prevent late nights from occurring.
• FAMILY PASSES
are a compulsory purchase and gives entrants and their families unrestricted access during the entire competition. Perfect for supporting fellow dancers on other days!
• CHAMPIONSHIPS – OPEN COMPETITIORS ONLY
Qualifying sections must be entered for championships. Failure to compete in a qualifying section on the day will make the championship ineligible.
NO TRICKS ARE PERMITTED IN LYRICAL, CONTEMPORARY AND JAZZ CHAMPIONSHIP DANCES
• DANCE RESTART
Any competitor that forgets their performance will have the opportunity to restart. This will be at the adjudicator’s discretion.
A restart will earn a voice critique only.
• DRESSING ROOMS
These spaces are to be shared equally with each other. Showing courtesy and respect is a high expectation at Burn the Floor Competitions.
These spaces must always be kept clean and tidy.
Parents and teachers, it is your responsibility to supervise and lead by example.
• ENTRY FEES
Are first in, first serve basis. All entries must be paid in full at the time of entering your competitors. Failure to pay in full by the cut off date will result in entries being rejected.

• MUSIC UPLOADS
Must be submitted onto the music uploads platform no later than 1 week prior to the commencement of competition day. Without your music in the system before you are due to go on stage, makes you ineligible to perform. No other forms of music will be accepted.
PLEASE NOTE: Ensure you keep a backup of your music on a phone, tablet or USB in case the music platform develops an error.
• PHOTOS / VIDEOS
Must be booked in with the media team.
BWP Studios are our official media team.
We reserve the right to appoint another media team should BWP be unavailable.
• PROGRAMS
are a compulsory purchase for all entrants. Entries will not finalise without one being ordered.
• PUBLIC LIABILITY
Burn The Floor National Dance Challenge and its employees will not be responsible for any accident or injury that occurs whilst on the premises.
All competitors and spectators enter at their own risk.
No responsibility will be taken for any accident, injury, or loss of property.
This also applies to any property within the complex of the venue.
• MEDIA COPYRIGHT
All participants in our competitions give their permission for any photograph or video that is taken of them to be used in the promotion of Burn the Floor National Dance Challenge. This includes the rights of newspapers, brochures, websites, social media, cable and tv advertising. If you do not wish for your child to be included in above promotional material, please send us an email to: burn.the.floor.national.dance.challenge@gmail.com
• REGISTRATION FEE
This is a one-off fee per competitor at each competition. This covers the cost of the final program being emailed.
• SECTION CHANGES
The director reserves the right to combine sections if there are insufficient entries. All attempts will be made to ensure changes are made before the release of the official program.
• SIDESTAGE ACCESS
Parents ARE NOT permitted side stage. There will be a side stage marshall.
• SPECTATOR ENTRY
Spectator entry is free. Family and friends will have free entry to the competition as they will be covered by the family passes paid by the competitor entry.
• TAP SHOES
MUST BE COVERED AT ALL TIMES!! Or removed until side stage ready to perform.
• TEACHERS ENTRY
All teachers are granted free entry into the venue
• TINY TOTS / 6 YEARS AND UNDER
may have one teacher side stage for moral support. PROMPTING IS NOT PERMITTED!!!
• VENUES
Our goal is to choose top-tier venues that are fully equipped with all the necessary facilities to create a memorable experience for both performers and audiences.
• VIDEOING OR TAKING OF PHOTOS OF ANY PERFORMANCE IS FORBIDDEN!!!
We take child safety very seriously!!!
Photos may be taken in front of the media boards found at the back of the venue or in the foyer.

• VOICE CRITIQUES
will be available no later than 48 hours after close of competition.
