CLASSICAL REPERTOIRE RULES AND VARIATIONS LIST
PLEASE READ VERY CAREFULLY TO AVOID BEING DISADVANTAGED
Age is taken from 1st January 2025
Classical Repertoire is an opportunity for aspiring classical dancers to experience and perform the set variations and choreography from the well-known classical ballets.
This will be a requirement when becoming a professional classical dancer within a ballet company. It is advised to not change the choreography as the adjudicator will be looking for as close a replication of the original choreography and costuming.
Burn The Floor National Dance Challenge conducts classical open sections and a classical championship section if you wish to do classical choreography other than set variations.
JUNIOR REPERTOIRE – (NO POINTE)
AGES 11 – 13 YEARS
ADJUDICATED CLASS – 30 minutes
• Competitors in this age group are required to take an adjudicated class prior to performing their classical variation.
This will be taken on stage in front of the adjudicator and the audience. This is a great opportunity for the public to see how a ballet class is run on a competition level.
• Females – A plain class leotard, pink ballet stockings, ballet flats, no skirt or hair adornments. A plain coloured ribbon, matching leotard colour may be worn around bun. No Jewellery.
• Males – A white top, black tights, white socks and ballet flats.
CLASSICAL VARIATIONS LIST – SEE AT THE END OF THIS PAGE
• Competitors in this age group are required to dance one set variation from the Classical Repertoire list only.
• Variations may be adapted slightly to suit candidate’s capabilities but is advised to stay as close to the set choreography as possible.
• Costuming to be as close to the original as possible
NOTE
COMPETITORS AGED 13 YEARS CAN CHOOSE TO ENTER EITHER THE JUNIOR OR INTERMEDIATE REPERTOIRE.
INTERMEDIATE REPERTOIRE – (EN POINTE)
AGES 13 – 15 YEARS
ADJUDICATED CLASS – 45 minutes
• Competitors in this age group are required to take an adjudicated class prior to performing their classical variation.
This will be taken on stage in front of the adjudicator and the audience. This is a great opportunity for the public to see how a ballet class is run on a competition level.
• Females – A plain class leotard, pink ballet stockings, ballet flats, no skirt or hair adornments. A plain coloured ribbon, matching leotard colour may be worn around bun.
• Males – A white top, black tights and ballet flats.

• Females – A plain class leotard, pink ballet stockings, ballet flats, no skirt or hair adornments. A plain coloured ribbon, matching leotard colour may be worn around bun.
• Males – A white top, black tights and ballet flats.

• Variations are not to be changed in any way.
• Costuming to be as close to the original as possible.
CONTRASTING CONTEMPORARY
• Competitors in this age group are also required to dance one “Own Choice” contrasting solo, Modern Contemporary style. Time limit: 3 minutes
